General Overview

This Reaper FE gives you Reapers to harass your opponent and take map control very early.

Build Order

  • 10 – Supply Depot
  • 12 – Barracks
  • 12 – Refinery
  • 15 – Orbital Command
  • 15 – 1st Reaper
  • 17 – Supply Depot
  • 17 – 2nd Reaper
  • 20 – @400 Mins, start 2nd Command Center
  • 20 – @150 Gas, start Reactor on Barracks, and Factory

Scouting

Because you can open with this build regardless of what your opponent is doing, you do not need to SCV scout.  All of your scouting will come from your Reapers (and then later from Hellions, should you choose to make them).  Use your Reapers to confirm your opponent has opened with a Hatchery First build and if possible jump into the main and spot your opponent’s Extractor timing.  Knowing whether or not your opponent is getting Zergling Speed is important for knowing whether or not your opponent has the possibility of applying early pressure.

Transitions

This build transitions well into both Marine/Marauder/Medivac/Mine or Mech because it sets up the basic infrastructure needed for either of those.

For the two most common MMMM transitions, check out Polt’s Map Control Build or Flash’s Reaper/Hellion 3CC build.

For a Mech transition, consider getting a fast 3rd Command Center before getting more infrastructure.  This way, you can start with a strong economy and afford to go up to 5 Factories (4 Tech labs, 1 Reactor) and a Reactored Starport as soon as possible.  Spend your excess minerals on Hellion runbys, extra Command Centers, and Missile Turrets.

Against Roach/Hydra play, focus on Widow Mine/Siege Tank/Banshee production.  Against Ling/Bling/Muta play, focus on Widow Mine/Hellbat/Siege Tank production (with some Thors added in for extra help against Mutalisk balls).

Pros and Cons

This build opens with 2 Reapers for map control while you set up your basic infrastructure and expansion.  It is a safe build to open with because of all of the scouting information early Reapers can give you.

However, this build is somewhat vulnerable to Speedling all-ins if you do not see them coming.  It also is slightly less economical than a CC First opener.

Favorable Maps

This build is strongest on maps with lots of cliffs so your Reapers have more routes to use for scouting and escaping.
